Behind the LG Company
LG Electronics and the LG Group have over 75 subsidiaries around the world. They make everything from television to mobile (cellular) phones. As the world’s second-biggest manufacturer for TVs, and with headquarters located in Yeoudio Seoul, LG Electronics has acquired other companies like: Zenith Electronics.
LG Electronics is a public company founded in 1958. The company specializes in mobile communication, digital display (TVs), Appliances, solar panels, and other digital medias. As of the last reports, the LG Group has over 82 thousand employees with 29 thousand residing in the company’s headquarter region of South Korea. The company is reported to rake in over $68 Billion dollars each year.
LG Electronics began life as GoldStar. Goldstar manufactured radios, TVs, refrigerators and other appliances just as LG does today. The LG Group was formed when Lucky and Goldstar merged, which explains the abbreviation LG — L from Lucky and G from Goldstar. Under the LG Group there are many subsidiaries like:
LG Chem – LG Chem manufactures polysilicon part to the head company
Zenith Electronics – Acquired by the LG Group in 1995
Conergy – Partnering company to produce solar panels as of 2008 (LG owns 75 percent of the company)
