An act described as heroism by some is under the gun by a major US Corporation, McDonalds. Last August, a McDonald’s employee — Nigel Haskett was shot while trying to stop a man from hitting a women inside the McDonald’s where he worked. However, McDonald’s has now issued a denial of workman’s comp to Mr. Haskett.
The shooter is behind bars. Nigel Haskett is now taking McDonald’s to court. Here’s what went down: It appears a woman and a man were sitting in McDonald’s (possible customers) when the man got up and hit the woman in the face. After the first hit, the McDonald’s employee — Haskett jumped to her aid and got the man outside where he was shot.
Haskett spent over a month in the hospital. The judge handling the criminal case called Haskett a hero. However, the risk management agent that represents McDonald’s says that the McDonald’s employee heroism won’t be rewarded with worker’s comp.
“… we have denied this in it’s entirety as it is our opinion that Mr. Haskett’s injuries did not arise out of or within the course and scope of his employment.”
