Electronic Devices On The NYC Underground Trains

Have you been to New York City lately? If so, please do not leave without taking a train ride on the subway. We have new railway cars and the days of the 1980’s are gone when the trains were covered with graffiti art. Those who remember those days will be impressed with the new trains we now have underground.

Another new trend on the New York subway you will also notice is that the overwhelming majority of young adults who ride the trains have long wires attached to their bodies usually leading from a concealed device, running up their necks attached to their ears. Sometimes it seems that nearly every passenger on the train is hooked up . These devices could be Iphones, Ipod, MP3 Players, or the outdated CD player.

These electronic gadgets allow the passengers to at least temporarily tune out from the rest of the world while traveling underground on the subway. After witnessing this strange phenomenon for the past few years, I wondered what it could be that made so many people, perhaps millions, want to tune out from the world and seek solace underground in listening to music or other forms of noise? It seems that such noise or sounds that come from these elegant devices, allows the listeners to at least for their time underground, enter a world in which they can control.

Many have long since discovered that they have little to say over where they can live, go to school, or even make choices on who the cities next mayor will be; that choice has already been made—money talks in New York City. Yet, underground they can control the selection of music or noise they choose to entertain themselves while transiting underground from one point to the next.

For a brief moment in time, the average Joe and Jane can feel empowered as they move their fingers up and down those sleek black electronic devices. With the flick of the wrist, as their hands caress those expensive electronic devices to select a noise of their choice—one preferable to the sounds they keep hearing in their heads, tuning out brings such a peace of mind.

If music isn’t your cup of tea, try the Kindle 2: Amazon’s New Wireless Reading Device (Latest Generation).
