What is “Cash For Clunkers” Program?
Cash for clunker is a government program to help people who own old cars replace them with more gas effective cars. Cash for clunkers is a part of the stimulus package. One of the main rules of the “Cash For Clunkers” program is that you replace your auto with a more fuel efficient vehicle. The Cash for Clunkers program is run by the National highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Here’s the Program in a Nutshell
Eligible vehicles are passenger cars and 3 different types of trucks (see Cash For clunkers Final Rule for more information). Your vehicle must be in drivable condition, and have proof of continuously insurance. The vehicle must also have one owner for the last year, and must be under 25 year old. The last requirement is that the vehicle must have a fuel economy under 18 mpg. If you meet all of the above requirements you could received a $3,500 to $4,500 credit or car allowance rebate.
